Robert Ramsay Cellars Tasting with winemaker Kristin Scheelar

Come taste some wines of balance and strength and lushness! Kristin is one of  the few female winemakers in Woodinville, and you’ll love what she’s been up to lately! Robert Ramsay wines sell out early, and we feel very fortunate to be able to bring you what’s on the RR bar these days. A special treat: the first-ever rosé produced by Robert Ramsay–which won top honors at this year’s Rosé Revival in Seattle.

Taste

2011 Rosé

Nice salmon color, then a bright fruity nose, hints of mineral and floral scents. Have a sip and BAM, more like a big bowl of fresh fruit laced with an acidity that will embrace a hot summer day, a plate full of French cheese, or slow-roasted baby back ribs. Inspired by our love of Rose from Provence and Bandol in particular.

2008 Mason’s Red

The 2008 Mason’s Red loves food. A spicy nose with hints of violet leads to a generous but balanced palate all wrapped in a structure high in acid to ensure it can be paired with anything from lamb to smoked salmon fettucini. Drink it alone or with your favorite dish.

Technical Notes:

2008 Cabernet Sauvignon

Amid dark, dense dried fruit there is a subtle minerality and dusty herb essences, indicative of the 28-year old vines of Snipes Mountain from which the wine is made. On the palate, the fruit is generous without being overly extracted and is complimented by an elegantly restrained touch of toasty oak.

2009 McKinley Springs Mourvedre

This wine is all about balance. Your nose picks up a combination of leather, spice and strawberry, subtle and unique. At first the wine suggests the same to taste but quickly viscosity sets in and the mouthfeel exceeds expectations, a less than simple sauce which flavor grows. As the complexity develops you discover riper fruits, lavender and earth, flowing together, evolving, elegant, wrapped in a smooth toasty finish. THIS WINE IS SOLD OUT AT THE WINERY!!!

2009 Boushey Syrah

Velvety, mocha-y, smokey deliciousness. Most Boushey Sryah has something in common. This 2009 Syrah from Dick’s Vineyard offers great complexity in the nose and then backs it up with a rich and complex dive into darkness.
