Wines from the Rhineland Tasting 5/17/2012

On the steep slate and shale banks along the Mosel, the pristine, castle-crowned vineyards of the Rheingau and the rolling hills of Rheinhessen, Germany produces some of the world’s most underrated wines. Rhineland-Palatinate is Germany’s leading producer of wine in terms of grape cultivation and wine export. Of thirteen wine regions producing quality wine in Germany, six (Rheinhessen, Pfalz, Mosel, Nahe, Mittelrhein and Ahr) are located in this loosely-defined region near the Rhine River in southwest Germany and account for approximately 60 percent of the German wine production.
